Should I be compensated for having to carry an on-call pager 365 days a year?
I work for a company in Missouri that requires me to carry a pager everyday of the year, even holidays. If I am called for an emergency I have to respond within 30 minutes. This does not allow me to leave a 30 mile radius of my home even for holidays. I get no compensation for carrying the pager, but they do allow me comp time for responding, in person, to an emergency. There are many times that I get called and it takes away from my family time, but I don’t get compensated if the pager goes off and I can answer it by talking to the resident. I am searching for laws that would explain the on-call procedures and compensation regs to me with no luck. Can someone who has gone through this or who is more adept at searching these things, PLEASE help me out!! Thanks so much.
